The bass-heavy beat of "Lights Out" was inspired by horror movies like Halloween or Friday 13th. Dark guitars go together with big 808s and synths that immediately remind you of your favorite horror movie. Likewise, the lyrics are about the fascination of the evil. The song is about an awkward encounter between the killer and his victim who is at the same time afraid of and in love with him. "Lights Out" is a modern pop song that sounds cinematic, eerie and romantic all at once.
